Our Finest Hour

This time a year ago, this tournament, the Webster Seaway Classic, was a defining moment for Relentless Hustle. And, it was our finest hour.
Dismissed or ignored were the founding families of Relentless Hustle who followed in faith Mr. Harris and Coach's vision of youth athletic excellence. All the passion, energy, and love that was created by those amazing kids at the ole hog pen off Pinnacle meant nothing to those same old town and club teams that show up annually at Seaway. As predictably typical, Lake Ontario opened the morning grey that day with the sunshine promise of great weather and lacrosse . The Blue Rain was smartly dressed in their warm ups and everyone universally remarked how great the kids looked and how small they were. Pretty casual... It's usually the casual and unsuspecting that get hammered the hardest! Right? If anyone in 14580 that day had witnessed the annihilation the week before in the Rothfuss Park and High Voltage tournaments of teams and goalies by Relentless Hustle 2016 & 17 they had time to prepare.
The Relentless Hustle family finally took the field as one. 2014 & 15 hadn't played alongside their younger sisters the week before for age appropriate reasons and now together they faced Brighton to start things off. Unfortunately for the Lady Barons, they'd experienced The Hammer and Likwid at Rothfuss and now faced them opening match with Livecchi, Glitch, Country Sweet, Abigal Cullinan and Reckless Abandon, age appropriate and in the line up. Rolling waves of Columbia Blue outmatched Brighton opening draw onwards. If kids ever become legend... this is how, when, and where it happens. The Shadow, #5 Ariana Cole earned her legend. As did Gooey Sixty Twoey, Addi Geitner and #10 Kayla O'Connell. So, too, did #3 Lydia Cooley, #12 The Hurricane, #18 Ashley Guerra, #23 Jessica Mitchell, #44 Caroline Cullinan, and #11 Katie Cosgrove. Coach taught class and sportswomanship by keeping the blowout reasonable.
Agony and the ecstasy! Relentless Hustle experienced its only defeat in her conception to Jamesville-Dewitt in the second tournament draw. Every pass seemed to end up on the ground and every shot of their's lit the lamp. There wasn't a dry eye on the sidelines after the horn blow... how bitter and painful for the kids. Afterwards, they held each other in consolation and in that moment they truly became one. Coach walked the kids off to the tree line, away from the parents, pressures, and expectations. And, on one knee, helped them find that inner conviction and desire that all champions possess. Incredibly, the Democrat and Chronicle captured the very instant Relentless Hustle found her courage to be the absolute best.
Unfortunately for Canandaigua and Irondequoit, the Blue Rain brought it all on afterwards. Ever wonder where #30 M. Harris, earned The Hammer nickname? Heck, it was almost Sledgehammer. Behind the back, forehand, left or right... goals were scored in bunches, goalies replaced by committee, and all eyes eventually watching the future of girls lacrosse. A collective OMG erupted across all the fields when Kenzie served Ice Cream, top shelf, and right after relieving two netminders of their will to play the position.
At the "The End of The Day" , #22 Emily Livecchi, #9 Kristina Glitch, #17 Abigal Cullinan, and #8 Taylor Reed had established themselves as the premier leadership midfielders, their age group, in Section V. #88 Kaitlin Sullivan, Country Sweet, dominanted between the pipes, and ended her workday with 17 saves and 6 clears to scores against Irondequoit in a 20-2 romp. #7 Brittney Chamberlain and #18 Ashley Guerra combined with The Hammer to form the most lethal attack our region may ever witness.
It was truly our finest hour... That hour between defeat and conviction.

Editor Note: Two questions. Who picked the setting anyways? And, I know there was at least a dozen flashes that night who has the good shots. Same too with Goblin 07.
